Studying the sovereignty of God

First we need a working definition regarding the sovereignty of God – God is continually involved with all created things in such a way that he
1. Keeps them existing and maintaining the properties with which He created them;
2. Cooperates with created things in every action, directing their distinctive properties to cause them to act as they do; and
3. Directs them to fulfill his purposes.

God's sovereignty over all aspects of our lives
Matthew 6:11 - 'Give us this day our daily bread. – This reveals our dependence on God to give us food each day, even though we work for it and obtain it through natural causes.

Philippines 4:19 - And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
This affirms that God will supply every need of his children even though God may use ordinary means such as other people.

God plans our days before we are born
Psalm 139:16 - Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

Job 14:5 - Since his days are determined,
The number of his months is with You;
And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass.

Galatians 1:15 - But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother's womb and called me through His grace, was pleased

Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.

God's providential care rules over all our actions
Acts 17:28 – "for in Him we live and move and exist…"

Jeremiah 10:23 - I know, O LORD, that a man's way is not in himself,
Nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps.

Proverbs 20:24 - Man's steps are ordained by the LORD,
How then can man understand his way?

Proverbs 16:9 - the mind of man plans his way,
But the LORD directs his steps.

Ezra 1:1 - Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he sent a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying:

Ezra 6:22 - And they observed the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days with joy, for the LORD had caused them to rejoice, and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria toward them to encourage them in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

Proverbs 21:1 - The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD;
He turns it wherever He wishes.
