When children pick the church

How many times have I heard someone say "we are going to a certain church because our children like it."
First of all, can you find a Bible verse that would support this kind of decision by the parents? We have a consumer driven church environment and it has even spilled over into the American homes. Now we have to ask our children if they approve of the church home that we as parents have chosen. If they don't like it then the parents allow the children to pick where the family will be spiritually fed, nurtured and grown up in Christ. What? Are you kidding me? How in the world, based on what the Bible says, can we give that responsibility over to our children? The correct answer is "we can't" and it is time for parents to lead their children not follow them.
Upon further investigation the "children's" church normally has lots of music, topical preaching, and an entertainment based agenda. The parents rationalize that it is better that the children at least go to church than be forced somewhere they really don't like. Think about how this strategy applies to other areas in our child rearing.
Do you suppose the supper schedule is based around the time the kids like it?
How about the type food that is served during the week?
Is there a kids survey that is filled out to be sure that they are getting to eat all the things that they like?
How about computer time and time for TV and even the shows that they are able to watch?
If we the parents make critical decisions over the food our children eat, the schools they attend, the clothes they wear and the TV they watch then why do we allow our children to pick the church.
Hey parents may I suggest that you pray, fast and visit Bible preaching, God honoring, Christ exalting and Spirit empowered churches to see first where God is leading you. And if by chance the church He leads you to is one that your kids don't like then use this as a teaching opportunity for other areas of life in which they will need to adjust. Tell them that picking a church home is a parental decision but they can pick the attitude in which they choose to attend. And who knows maybe God will save them, and use them in a unique way to build His kingdom in order that Christ might be demonstrated as great!
